Girl Interrupted

"She lit the match."
- Susanna Kaysen, Girl Interrupted

Bonjour mes beautés,

     Oh! How I've missed you! Yes, I'm still here. I've been dividing my life into thirds:

Motherhood - proud sports mom and chauffeur X three (thanks the gods for my convertible and Dunkin' Donuts).

Photography - joyously, I've been quite busy on that front: my first  expectant mamma shoot, a hairstylist/beauty diva has hired me to construct her 'blogspot' and photograph her journey, a boudoir shoot for a fantabulous 40-something, a gorgeous bride and her dashing fiancée, an actor's entire portfolio, trying to master fast action sports photography and, of course, my Postcards.

Sistah-Author - But I've been spending most of my time putting the finishing touches on my contracted manuscript. I'm nearly there, and I'm lovin' it, but it's hard time consuming work!

     But that's not what has kept me away from Pour l'Amour. For two years now I have to been unable to return to my love - Paris. Quite simply, posting here had become too painful. Then, a few weeks ago I got an email:

"Hello, I stumbled across your Etsy page and signed up for your blog. First, your photography is so beautiful! Thanks for sharing…I [too] have [loved] Paris since day one…It's nice to see a beautiful black female with similar interests (photography, travel, all things French). Looking forward to keeping up with your blog. Myra."

"Life is what happens to you
while you're busy making other plans."
- Allen Saunders (1957)

     That was the beginning of my e-convo, and friendship, with Myra. I soon learned that we share a similar story Parisanne, and remarked: 'we're girls interrupted.' To which she replied: "My business degree was supposed to be back up for my…dream of living in France. Somehow, life got in the way…or I got lost along the way. Hence, girl interrupted."

     Myra's comments snapped me out of my funk with a quickness. The whole reason I started writing this blog was because I didn't want to continue to allow life to happen to me, I wanted to take the feelings and inspiration Paris gives to me and inject them into my everyday life - no matter how small or how large. I didn't want to be busy making other plans, because I would be too busy bringing those plans to fruition. And that's exactly what I have done and will continue to do. But I also wanted to inspire like minded people to do the same. Precious letters like Myra's remind me of these things but, most importantly, inspire me too. Thank you Myra ;-}

    The definition of interrupted is: 'to cause or make a break in uniformity.' I am a girl interrupted, because I'm living a full, loving, challenging, imperfect life of following my passion(s). And following one's passion(s) can never run along a smooth even flowing uniformity - where's the fun in that? My life is not happening to me, I'm happening to it!

Myra's @mail has given me an idea and maybe a new Pour l'Amour... section. I'd love to hear about how you are following your passion(s), your girl interrupted and boy interrupted stories.

Vivre! Rire! Aimer!
