Show & Tell Friday: Japanese Dude

Although I've been blogging for 2+ years, I've only recently truly dedicated myself to posting. I've also began searching the wonderful blogspots of my fellow blogging sisters and I'm loving what I'm finding! There are so many fascinating people, with interesting things to say, and beautiful things to share. I may just have to start posting about them. And I think I'll call my posts about these fantabulous blogspots: Blog-Nirvana.

Recently, I've found blog-nirvana at My Romantic Home. Cindy has this wonderful feature: "Show & Tell Friday;" encouraging people to contribute pictures of special things from our homes and gardens, to share our treasures with our blogging community. What a wonderful idea! Here's my 1st contribution: "Japanese Dude."

"Japanese Dude"

This gorgeous little hand-painted vase is about 3 inches high, 2 inches wide. I use it to hold the toothpicks I use to create my Paris inspired bracelets - beautiful and practical ;-) He sits on my desk and just looking at him makes me feel good.

He came to me by way of my mother-in-law. Of course, being a historian, I did a little background research and found some interesting info. On the bottom of this tiny vase are the hand-painted words: "Made in Occupied Japan." This is the designation given to items imported from Japan to the U.S. for the time period of about 7 years after WWII (1945-1952). My Japanese Dude is in nearly perfect condition (just a tiny chip at the bottom, in the back). The colors are brilliant, the lines so fine. That's pretty amazing for such a delicate little piece, that came from such a long way and is 66 years old!

Vivre! Rire! Aimer!
