life will give you pictures...

"Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak." - Rachel Zoe

This past weekend our two eldest children, Rory and Sage, went to their high school's Homecoming Dance. Of course I planned to take photographs in my 'studio.' But the combination of how truly gorgeous they looked (some serious fashion going on!), our slice of the world blanketed with a russet golden Indian Summer, and the amazing light of twilight (on the second day of Autumn, no less) beckoned us outside...

Sage conceived and brilliantly executed her 'Goddess Ensemble:' a short crushed velvet red dress, with velvet Roman sandals that matched her dress's design and color. Several years ago, on a whim - because they're so gorgeous, I purchased a handful of red velvet and organza milliner flowers (Mary Not Martha) - put them on a shelf in my French Girl's Wardrobe, saved them for the perfect moment. I didn't know then that moment would be me weaving them through Sage's long brown curls, the final touch for her first Homecoming dance.

"The boor covers himself. The rich man or the fool adorns himself. And the elegant man gets dressed." - Honore de Balzac

Like his sister's, Rory's Homecoming ensemble was simple, pure, elegance:
A crisp white shirt, black bow tie - he borrowed from Mr. G,
form-fitting cropped navy pants, white leather loafers
- topped with a huge magnificent Nappy Pineapple-Do.

Band of brothers - these handsome gentlemen have been friends since Kindergarten

I was blown away by how...fine everyone looked. Everyone was dressed to the nines but it was more than that. I've been taking photographs of my children for years, at every age, but in these group of photos I see that they've graduated from adorable, chubby cheeked children to a lovely young woman and handsome young man, on the verge of adulthood. They have the entire world before them, filled with endless choices, opportunities, possibilities. They know it, look forward to it, are almost ready for it. It's all there, plain to see, in: the stance of their bodies, the expressions on their faces, the depths in their eyes.
