There's a meeting in the ladies room...

"To take a photograph is to participate in another person's
mortality, vulnerability, mutability."
- Susan Sontag

     My bestie and I routinely get together with our families to share a meal, sip a bit of bubbly. The night before our latest dinner date, E asked me to bring my camera and take a few photos of her. The weather was supposed to be nominally warm and sunny enough for us to steal outside and snap a few photos. Alas, it's pre-Spring in the Midwest. Yep you guessed it - overcast, rain, and cold - sigh. Of course we didn't let that stop us. But first to break bread together...

The Ladies

My darling Sage has officially been bitten by the shutterbug. We were fighting over my camera all afternoon - and I loved it ;-}

Tres belle.
Doesn't this look and feel like Paris?

It was pouring outside and we couldn't do the shoot in the middle of a crowded restaurant. What to do? Bien sur move it to the ladies room! Luckily for us, I was able to shoot for a full 30 minutes before anyone came in. Sage stood guard at the door. While the lighting was truly horrible, we were able to work a tiny bit of magic - here are the two of the best...

Of course, no amount of bad lighting
could make this woman look bad.

When we returned to our table we saw that, while the sun was still being stubborn, the rain had stopped, the overcast sky had considerably brightened and the natural light was amazing...

Photographing E was a dream. Just to let you know how ridiculously gorgeous E is, except for cropping, none of these photographs have been edited for content. These photos are solely composed of E artificial and natural light. Furthermore, my new high-tech fancy schmancy  camera was completely out of juice - hence, I had to use my rickety temperamental, in desperate need of repair, 10 year old DLS. Yeah I know - WOW. My 'sistah from another mister' and I had SO much fun. My experience photographing E got me thinking about the awesome and intimate experience of the photographic portrait: the Pas de Deux - yeah, that's my next post.
