"Those who have experienced Paris have advantage over those who have not. We are the ones who have glimpsed a little bit of heaven, down here on earth." - Deirdre Kelly

#4 Pour Flaner

"Les Boutiques" July/August 2012

The term 'pour flaner' (to stroll) has its origins in 16th century France; connotating 'wasting time' - Ha!

It was not until the 19th century that this term became a concept, full of rich meaning and complex nuance(s). Pour flaner is an essential staple to becoming a Parisienne - for the only way to truly learn and know this city; its rhythm and flow, its Old and New world aesthetic(s), its language (proper and slang), the cultural nooks and crannies; one must wander, explore, discover, observe, eat, drink, talk, experience.

I am blessed and grateful to be able to wander my Beloved with a camera in my hand and my little dog Coco by my side...

"[Flanerie] is the gastronomy of the eye." - Honore de Balzac

"Flanerie [is] a way of understanding
the rich variety of the city landscape."
- Victor Fournel

"For the perfect Flaner, for the passionate spectator,
it is an immense joy to [be] in the heart of the multitude,
amid the ebb and flow of movement."
- Charles Baudelaire

Sincerement votre de Paris,

Temple
