My 1st magazine article (words & photography)
I'm so thrilled that I can't sit still! This afternoon, as I was leaving to teach my afternoon classes, I checked the mailbox as I always do. And there it was - my advance copy of the April 2011 issue of Romantic Homes!
Since I was a little girl I've loved photography. With my point-and-shoot I took pictures of everything and everyone. Then about 5 years ago, Peter brought me a fabulous camera - the Nikon D50, and I gloriously fell off the deep end and got serious about photography. At about the same time, Rory started pre-school. I approached his teacher - Nancy - and asked if she'd allow me to come and photograph Rory's pre-school class. She said yes and had one condition, I give her copies of whatever I 'shot.' So, I spent one solid year photographing children and school room vingnettes. From then and there on, there was no stopping me. With my trusty D50 in my hands, I started 'shooting' anything and everything. In 2009 I realized my dream of photographing my beloved Paris. When I looked at the pix, I realized that I wanted to go farther - what about travel photography/journalism?
Before we left for our 2010 trip to Paris, I contacted the editorial director of my favorite magazine - Romantic Homes (RH). I told her that I wanted to submit a travel article on Paris with my photography. She agreed to look at whatever I sent her - and so it began. Well I submitted it and RH loved it and published my work. They've named it "French Fare" (Francaise Fare). My article spans 6 pages and features 20 of my photographs of Paris! It was a heady, surreal moment to see my words and photography in print. Un autre de ma liste de godet (another one from my bucket list)! RH's April 2011 issue should hit the stand this weekend (Barnes & Nobles, Borders, and large chain grocery stores).
